Vacant Buildings
There is nothing more devastating to a neighborhood than an abandoned home. It attracts curious children, homeless people, and can be the target of graffiti, arson, and drug crimes.
Leaving a vacant home unsecured from entry (broken windows and missing or un-lockable doors) for more than 30 days is a public nuisance and the City or County can petition the court to order the structure demolished or secured depending on the integrity of building.
Debris
Vacant homes or businesses can also become a community dumping ground for junk, trash, and debris. Collections of junk or trash can also be considered a public nuisance. Do not assume that someone else has reported an abandoned home or collection of junk. Please contact the Code Enforcement Division Clerk at (406) 237-6146.
