The Billings Fire Department employs 127 line personnel including Firefighters, EMTs and Paramedics of all levels who respond to a wide variety of fire, rescue, and medical emergencies. They are divided into three platoons: A, B, and C. Firefighters work 24 hour shifts.
All eight stations employ a minimum of three trained Firefighters to handle various fire emergencies, focusing on structure fires that involve permanent buildings and other constructions, as well as outdoor fires such as trash and grass fires.
Battalion Chiefs are the commanding officers on duty. They manage schedules, personnel, and apparatuses of all fire stations within the city.
Captains are the officers in charge of a fire apparatus and oversee the day-to-day operations of their station.
Engineers drive and operate the equipment on the fire apparatus.
Firefighters operate the specific tools needed to accomplish the task at hand.
