In the Beginning

In the spring of 2011, students at three Title I Elementary Schools were able to start and transplant vegetable, herb, and flower seeds, while caring for them and watching them grow. All of the plant starts are were raised for use in The Salvation Army's community and youth gardening programs.

2011 was the pilot year of a Summer Garden Program for youth involved in gardening, music and fine arts classes at The Salvation Army. This program gave students a life-changing experience as they gain skills and experiences in the garden, learn how healthy foods set a foundation for a healthy lifestyle, and discover how food sustains us by getting from seed to plate.

Today, the gardens are maintained by local residents and is managed through Rimrock. The garden continues to provide local fresh produce to those in need.
