Community Partnerships


The Billings Police Department Parks Officer position started in 2017 when the Parks and Recreation Division proposed this position. Due to the large footprint that the Parks and Recreation Division covers and the services they provide to the community it seemed natural to have a police officer to assist them in their duties and the community they serve. 

 Overall, Billings has 47 developed parks that total 1,223 acres and another 1,477 acres of undeveloped, natural park areas. Many of the parks have facilities such as playgrounds, horseshoe pits, basketball courts, spray grounds, covered shelter areas and much more. 

 Additionally, the City offers 53 miles of hard and soft surface trails that officers patrol via patrol car, bike or ATV. The Parks Officer is committed to improving the quality of life in the Parks through a customer service, problem solving partnership with the community.They will assist Parks and Rec employees to provide the safest environment possible in order for park goers to have an enjoyable park experience. 


The Downtown Resource Officers partner with the Downtown Business Alliance and the Downtown Business owners to help with any criminal activity involved downtown. Officers can be seen on bicycles, weather permitting, walking around, or in a marked patrol vehicle. There are two dedicated Downtown Resource Officers. Downtown Business Resource Officers have a work cell phone which the business can call whenever assistance is needed. This is beneficial for the businesses because they can call directly to any Officer instead of relaying information to a third party and then back to the officer who is likely close by.

The Downtown Resource Officers assist the Downtown Billings Alliance with different events throughout the year. You will likely find them at Alive After Five, any downtown parades, and even the Christmas Stroll. The Downtown Resource officers sit on the Community Innovations board and work to make downtown a safer and more enjoyable place.

Mission Statement

The Billings Clinic campus Police Officer's mission is to ensure a safe, secure, weapon and drug free environment for staff, patients, and visitors. This can be accomplished through proper training, team work, and by dedicating ourselves to raising the level of preparedness to meet the needs of today and the challenges of tomorrow. We believe this will result in a positive and compassionate service to Billings Clinic staff, patients, visitors, and the community.

 Officer's Duties

 A Billings Clinic Police Officer is to maintain friendly contact with staff, visitors, patients and guests. The Officer should make rounds to all hospital properties to make their presence visible. Officers patrol and respond to calls for service on the Billings Clinic campus. Billings Clinic Officers conduct criminal investigations and perform arrests when appropriate. The Officer also prepares reports detailing incidents that may require testimony in court.
