Join us in welcoming our new Municipal Court Judge Katie Heller!
Judge Heller was sworn in today and will serve alongside Judge Sheila Kolar in Billings Municipal Court.
“I am deeply appreciative of the trust and confidence the city of Billings has placed in me via the election, and I look forward to serving the City of Billings for the next four years,” Judge Heller said during her swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday afternoon.
Having a second judge will help with the court’s high-volume caseload. This newly added position was made possible by voter approval of the public safety mill levy.
Judge Heller was born and raised in Billings. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Montana State University Billings.
Heller graduated with her Juris Doctorate from Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach, VA.
Yellowstone County District Court Judge Donald Harris officiated Heller’s ceremony. He presides over STAR, the drug court program for the 13th Judicial District.
Heller was a STAR team member for the past three years. During Tuesday’s ceremony, Judge Harris and the STAR Court coordinator presented Heller with a wooden gavel.
The City of Billings is excited to welcome Judge Heller as she joins us in serving the citizens of this community. We look forward to seeing Judges Kolar and Heller work together as they increase efficiency in our municipal court system.
