MET Transit unveils new schedule and bus routes, offering more convenience to riders

After 50 years of service it’s time for change, come check out the new MET Transit!

The team at MET Transit is excited to announce its new route system and schedule that offers more frequent and timely stops.

The new routes and schedule begin Oct. 2, 2023, and include more than 450 designated bus stops. The updates are available to view online right now at www.mettransit.com with printed schedules available in the coming weeks.

The stops are marked with MET signs roughly every quarter of a mile, eliminating the current wave system, where a passenger flags down a bus anywhere along the route.

The goal of the new designated stop system is to keep buses running on time and provide riders with easy-to-locate, accessible stops.

Other improvements include extended weekday service hours from 5:45 a.m. to 8 p.m., a 15-minute circulator route downtown, multiple 30-minute routes, as well as improvements on Saturdays.

MET is also introducing features to make the passenger experience more convenient.

The Passio Go App, available on Google Play and the App Store, allows riders to track their bus in real-time by selecting “City of Billings MET Transit” as their agency.

Using Umo Mobility, also available on Google Play, the App Store, and the web, passengers can purchase a bus pass and use their phone to pay for fares.

Newly installed kiosks at the Stewart Park and Downtown Transfer Centers give riders an additional option to purchase a pass.

The option to purchase a pass at the MET office, 1705 Monad Rd., and City Hall, 210 N. 27th St. is still available, along with cash payment in exact change when boarding a bus for a one-way fare.

In the coming months, Billings will also join the growing list of cities using Google Transit, a free partnership that allows passengers to plan trips with information on stops, routes, schedules, and fares.
